Dolcie has now been REHOMED.
Dolcie is a 2 year old Golden Retriever. She didn’t have a good start and was kept in a house without walks or socialisation until she was 9 months old, she was also fed only on human food and was very obese when she was taken on by her second owners. A year further on and she has come to us so we can find her the home that she needs, a home that will understand her and continue to work on her issues and increase her confidence. She has lost a lot of weight, but is still overweight and will need to continue a weight loss and fitness regime in her new home.
Dolcie is currently in foster with a couple and seems to prefer men to women, she bonds strongly and likes a fuss, but only on her terms. She is an intelligent girl and will try and train you so a firm consistent approach is essential with Dolcie. She will grumble when made to do something she doesn’t like, and will refuse dog food in the hope that you will cave in and share your dinner with her, with consistency she soon realises what is expected of her.
On walks Dolcie is very strong on the lead and will need further training. Off lead she is very clingy and will stay close to her people, but she has been polite and submissive to dogs she has met outside the home. She will do anything for a high value treat and will be an ideal candidate for some positive reward based training.
We are looking for an experienced home, without children, where there is someone at home for most of the day and who would be prepared to work with her issues and improve her confidence. Ideally we would like to place her where there is another smaller, preferably male dog.
Dolcie is speyed, microchipped, tattooed, worm & flea treated and vaccinated.
