A very special foster home required!

Foster home now found!

We are looking for a very special foster home to join our team to foster a very special little dog! Petey is an adorable 6 year old Yorkshire Terrier who came into our care after initially being rescued by Niall from New Hope Rescue. Before being rescued Petey had been due to be put to sleep for developing diabetes, an easily controlled condition in dogs, and he also has the characteristic cataracts that develop almost overnight with this condition. Over the last few months we have stabilised his diabetes and he is now on 2 small doses of Caninsulin per day but we, along with New Hope Rescue, are soon about to start a fundraising drive to raise the money to have Petey’s cataracts removed and his sight restored, but to do this we need a committed foster home to care for him while he has his surgery and the regular check ups that come afterwards for approximately 6 months. The successful applicant will become part of our friendly and welcoming team and will have complete support as Petey regains his sight. Most of us here at Cinque Ports Rescue have been through all this before and it is such a rewarding process.

Petey is an affectionate, fun loving little man, he loves his toys, adores his walks and wants to be everybody’s friend, you wouldn’t know he was blind as he certainly doesn’t let it hold him back! He is clean and quiet in the home and excellent in the car.

We are looking for a calm home where there is someone there for the majority of the time, where the furniture isn’t moved around too much (at least until his cataracts are removed!) and where there is someone who doesn’t mind administering Petey’s injections twice a day (he certainly doesn’t mind it!). Full training and support will be given and of course you get the bonus of caring for a super little dog. Petey could live as an only dog, or with other calm resident dogs.

If you are interested in becoming Petey’s foster home, and you live within driving distance of his vets in Deal and the Ophthalmic specialist vet in Elham in Kent, please email us at woof@cinqueportsrescue.org.uk
