Beautiful Kiara has been a much loved companion and is a very special little dog, she enjoys her home comforts and adores human company. She is a marvellous little girl who enjoys the company of other dogs and is fine to live with cats and other small furries. She would do well in a home with other friendly dogs where she would be fine to be left for a few hours in the company of other animals, but would be equally happy to be an only dog where someone is around for most of the day – she just loves company!
At 8 years old she is an undemanding little dog, calm, quiet and clean and well behaved in and outside of the home. Kiara is great in the car but can have slight travel sickness on long car journeys but short ones are fine on an empty tummy. She walks beautifully on the lead and loves her toys and a comfy bed.
Sadly Kiara came into our care as she has been subject to some substantial neglect due to her owner developing severe dementia with no initial support for Kiara; this is absolutely no reflection on her lovely owner as we know how beloved she was, it is just an extremely sad situation that is sadly becoming all too common in recent years. Unfortunately, as her beloved mum wouldn’t let her out of her sight, Kiara didn’t see a vet for some years and no one noticed her condition was very much deteriorating also. As a hairless dog Kiara’s skin has suffered and she is currently covered in pearly cysts, these are not painful just unsightly, and are already improving with a regular skincare routine. More seriously Kiara has also developed a facial paralysis, whether this was due to the infection in her mouth and teeth that she had on arrival to the rescue, or a blow to the back of the head as our vet has suggested we will never know, but she had probably been living with it already for a least a year and after months of treatment in our care it hasn’t improved and it is now expected to be permanent. Please don’t let this put you off, it just means that Kiara has no proper blink reflex so care needs to be taken that her eyes remain moist, her tongue is also affected on one side she must be fed from below in a bowl rather than allowed to jump up to accept food as this can cause her to cough. Kiara is absolutely not bothered by these issues, she adores food and is the most affectionate little lady. Her favourite thing is to be covered by a blanket or snuggled in your bed if she is allowed to, and she will make the most loyal and loving companion.
We are going to be unapologetically fussy when it comes to choosing the right home for Kiara. We would like her homed within the CT (Canterbury) postcode area so we can offer ongoing support and be close at hand and we would prefer a home with previous Crested experience or who can demonstrate that they have done their homework! As Kiara is a hairless dog she will require clothes for walks in the colder months and skin protection in the summer. We will make sure Kiara’s new home knows exactly how to care for her ongoing skin condition and we are always here for support.
