Willow: Chihuahua

Applications are now CLOSED.

Willow is a sweet but very nervous young dog having missed out on key puppy socialisation before coming into our care, and since being in foster it has taken a while for her to begin to come out of her shell and join in with the normal expectations of being a dog. Whilst physically she is a healthy and robust chihuahua, she lacks confidence and is fearful of anything new, anything unpredictable and is particularly nervous around men. She is very submissive and not aggressive at all but will need a safe place to retreat to when she feels overwhelmed.

Willow is very smart, so we know that her confidence will improve in the right home, and she is affectionate with those she trusts. She can be left for short periods in the company of other dogs, she also has a good appetite and adores chicken and cheese in small quantities for training and confidence building. She happily sleeps downstairs with other resident dogs in her foster home. Willow enjoys running around the garden but has not yet successfully managed a lead walk and her new owners will be required to exhibit kindness, patience and positive training in this area.

We are looking for a calm home with at least one, preferably more, confident resident dog(s) who Willow can bond and learn from, which will help to continue building her confidence. We are looking for patient adopters who have experience in nervous dogs, and who will give Willow the time and patience that she requires.

Initially not housetrained Willow is much improved in this department but may need a puppy pad overnight and, as a result of being in a new home environment, we would expect her training to regress until she settles in. We must reiterate that Willow cannot be homed as an only dog, so please do not submit an application unless you already have a calm, confident and friendly dog.

If you are interested in offering 2-year-old Willow a home please complete our online Adoption Form.
